Malmo Arab Film Festival and the Swedish Film Institute is proud to present the initiative MAFF Development Funding for the feature film. The funding is intended to support feature film projects in development. Projects should focus on issues that concern Arab culture, identity and exile or co-produced by Swedish and Arabic producers.
With the establishment of the first edition of MAFF Market Forum (MMF), the world's first platform for collaboration and co-productions between the Nordic countries and the Arab world, Malmo Arab Film Festival and the Swedish Film Institute presents the initiative MAFF Development Funding for the feature film. The aim of the initiative is to support feature film projects in the development phase, with the processing of the script, development of storyboards, research, etc. The supports priority are feature film projects related to subjects regarding Arab culture, identity, exile or are a planned co-production by Swedish and Arabic producers.
A requirement for applying for development funding is that the project must have a Swedish fund recipient. For a film project to apply for participation, also one of the following two requirements must be met,
- The story of the film must have a connection to Arab culture, identity and exile
- The film is a planned co-production between at least one Swedish and one Arab producer
No additional requirements exists regarding the film project, origin, language or theme.
Applications for film project is open between July 1, 2015, and closes for application on August 30 2015. The application is open to feature fiction films and must contain the following documents,
- Relevant contact information
- Synopsis / treatment / script or other written basis
- Applicants' CV, previous experience script- and film work is favored
- Photographs, pilot or other reference material
On 7 September 2015, five projects to be announced for participation in MAFF Development Funding Feature via Malmo Arab Film Festival's website. The selection is made my Magdalena Jangard from the Swedish Film Institute, and Mouhamad Keblawi from Malmö Arab Film Festival.
1-2 representatives of the selected projects will be invited to Malmo Arab Film Festival during MAFF Market Forum 3 to 5 October 2015. During the MMF, representatives from the projects will participate in pitching sessions, one-to-one meetings with the committee of the MAFF Development Funding and other film professionals. The representatives will also have the opportunity to meet future co-producers from the Nordic countries and the Arab world, as well as other funds, funders and film institutions from around the world.
The committee will for these individual one-to-one meetings and presentations by the selected projects choose one project that will recieve SEK 150,000 (€ 15,000) in development funding. The awarded project will be announced during the closing gala for Malmo Arab Film Festival, October 6 at Malmö Live.
