Luke 24 : 27, 31 - 32 

The Emmaus road.

This is beautiful because it shows exactly how

the door opens.

And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

27, 31, 32

Look at the pattern here — it ties everything together:

1. Scripture opens the mind* v27

He starts “at Moses and all the prophets” — that’s Deut 28 and all the covenant. Jesus shows them how all of it was about Him. A renewed mind comes from seeing Christ in the Word.

2. The heart burns before the eyes open v32

“Did not our heart burn within us, while he... opened to us the scriptures?”

That burning = the Spirit witnessing. It’s God knocking on the mind. The Word + Spirit together.

3. Eyes open  Recognition  Submission v31

“And their eyes were opened, and they knew him”

Once they saw Him in the Scriptures, they recognized Him. And that recognition leads to the will submitting, to fellowship — just like Rev 3:20 “I will sup with him.”

So the whole chain we’ve been talking about is right here:

Jesus didn’t start with “do better.” He started with “let me show you Me in the Word.” When He’s revealed, obedience and submission follow naturally.

That’s why Deut 28, Acts 5:32, Rev 3:20 all end up at the same place  knowing Him.

This morning began like any other morning. We woke up, and for about ten minutes everything seemed perfectly normal. The lights were on, the appliances were working, and the day was off to a good start. Then I reached to plug my phone into the charger. Nothing happened. Suddenly the power had gone out.

I wasn't sure whether it was just our house or the entire island, but suddenly everything changed. We couldn't charge our phones. We couldn't use the microwave, or any of the things we had come to depend on. It is amazing how quickly you realize how much of life depends on having power.

As I looked out the back of the house, something caught my attention. Standing almost beside the house was a massive electrical transmission tower. It was impossible to miss. There it stood, the visible source from which power flows throughout the area. The tower was right there, yet our house sat in darkness. For the next hour and a half we waited.

It is interesting how powerless we felt. We found ourselves saying, "We can't do that right now." "We'll have to wait." "Nothing is charging." Even simple tasks suddenly seemed impossible because the power wasn't flowing to us. The source existed, but we weren't experiencing its benefits.

As I stood there thinking about it, the Lord gently turned my attention from the electrical tower to something far greater. How often do we live our spiritual lives the same way? We know God is all-powerful. We believe He can heal, restore, provide, strengthen, and make a way where there seems to be no way. Yet when difficulties arise, we sometimes begin living as though His power has become unavailable. We allow fear, discouragement, uncertainty, or disappointment to convince us that we are powerless.

But God's power has never failed. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 3:20 that God "is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us." Think about that for a moment. The same God whose power created the heavens and the earth has placed His power at work within those who belong to Him. Our circumstances may change, but His power does not.

About an hour and a half later, the electricity suddenly returned. The lights came on. The outlets worked again. My phone immediately began charging. Nothing had changed about the tower behind the house. It had remained standing there the entire time. What changed was that the current began flowing again.

What a reminder that God's power never experiences an outage. There are seasons when we may not immediately see Him working. There are moments when answers seem delayed and we feel as though we are waiting in the dark. Yet God has not abandoned us, nor has His strength diminished. His power is constant, even when our circumstances make us question what He is doing.

Today, I am reminded that I do not serve a limited God. I serve the One who is able to do more than I could ever imagine. When I feel weak, His power is still sufficient. When I cannot see the answer, His power is still at work. When life seems to pause, God has not stopped moving.

Never mistake a delay in what you see for a deficiency in God's power. The Source has never failed. Trust the One who is still working, even when you cannot yet see the current flowing.

Pearl's Prayer:

Father, thank You that Your power never weakens, never fails, and never runs out. Forgive me for the times I have judged Your ability by what I could see. Teach me to trust that You are working even in seasons of waiting. Strengthen my faith to believe that You are able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all I could ask or imagine. May my confidence rest not in my circumstances but in Your limitless power.
